Michael is a US-qualified attorney with substantial experience advising clients in high-stakes, complex litigation in the United States. 

For over three decades, Michael has focused on U.S. business litigation in wide ranging subject areas, and he has tried multiple cases in federal and state court as well as in arbitration. In addition to trials and appeals, Mike is also a skilled legal counselor to business owners and corporate executives. A trusted advocate with a reputation for securing excellent results for clients, Michael’s clients rely on his judgment, experience, and practical advice to solve complex and difficult problems clients confront in business and life.

Recently, he represented Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as lead trial counsel in a statewide litigation arising from school mask mandates in Florida’s public schools.  

Michael serves as a panelist for the American Arbitration Association National Roster of Arbitrators. 

Before joining Asserson, Michael was the co-founder of a Florida-based boutique litigation and general counsel firm and, prior to that, he was an equity partner at Holland & Knight, LLP, an Am Law 100 law firm, representing numerous and diverse companies in all aspects of complex business litigation. Michael graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, and earned B.A. with Distinction from the University of Virginia.

Examples of recent work

  • Lead trial counsel in an arbitration matter on behalf of a Class 1 railroad company asserting breach of contract claims against one of the country’s largest coal mining and coal shipping firms.
  • Lead trial counsel in multiple matters representing executive employees arising from restrictive covenants and other executive employment matters. 
  • Co-counsel in a US federal court action on behalf of Florida’s largest health insurance firm, which asserted multiple fraud and illegal kickback claims against the country’s largest provider of dialysis services.
  • Co-counsel in a US federal court action on behalf of one of the leading providers of wireless communications services, which asserted legal claims against local government entities arising from valuable licences to use unique channels of the radio frequency spectrum.
  • Represented operator and manager of multiple Florida-based urgent care centers in an asset purchase agreement with an affiliate of Florida’s largest health insurance firm.
