Shimon is a prize-winning litigator specialising in complex commercial disputes and group claims.

He was a finalist as Junior Lawyer of the Year 2018 in the Law Society’s Excellence Awards, and was named Rising Star of the Year at the Modern Law Awards 2019.

Shimon qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and holds Higher Rights of Audience.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

• Successfully defended c. $2 billion Commercial Court claim against Beny Steinmetz, by Vale, one of the world’s largest mining companies. The claim was dismissed on its merits during the trial in 2022.
• Created ‘Student Group Claim’, a group action by more than 160,000 students against dozens of UK universities seeking hundreds of millions of pounds in compensation for breaches of contract arising from teaching moved online or cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic and staff industrial action.
• Acted for a group of 14 claimants in the solar power industry seeking damages under the Human Rights Act winning in ground-breaking High Court and Court of Appeal decisions. The case settled successfully for £60 million in damages and costs just before trial in 2018. At the time this was the largest Human Rights Act damages payment ever achieved from the UK Government.
• Acted in a professional negligence claim against one of the world’s largest law firms, CMS, seeking hundreds of millions of pounds in damages in compensation relating to the collapse of four French and Turkish pharmaceutical companies.
• Acted successfully for Israel’s largest bank, Bank Hapoalim, in opposed enforcement proceedings in England, including obtaining a freezing injunction to secure the bank’s position.
