Clear and commercial advice is tailored to the needs of our client
Our finance lawyers are driven by solutions; proactive in their work with both lenders and borrowers, to anticipate issues and to intervene before problems arise.
The team delivers a wide range of finance-related work, which includes secured and unsecured lending, debt and equity restructurings, project finance and infrastructure transactions, emerging markets investments, leveraged acquisitions and disposals and real estate finance.
Our clear and commercial advice is tailored to the needs of our client. We act for lenders and lending syndicates, multilateral lending institutions (IFIs), private equity funds, fund managers and borrowers.
We regularly act on transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, working closely with other law firms to ensure that our clients receive a seamless, high-quality level of service.
We apply the same level of care and attention whether your transaction is a small bilateral loan or a large PPP infrastructure project. We couple this with a combination of pragmatism and creativity to ensure that the needs of each client are met.
- Finance Disputes: Our market-leading litigation team has extensive experience of handling disputes connected with banking and finance issues. We have acted both for and against some of the world’s leading financial institutions, including HSBC, JPMorgan Chase and Credit Suisse, and successfully intervened in disputes involving global and national regulators. We have also handled ground-breaking claims including acting for Sonja Kohn, the principal defendant in the largest claim associated with the Madoff case to come to trial in the UK. Our expertise includes banking law, complex financial instruments, fraud, proceeds of crime, professional negligence, and international trust work.
- Projects and infrastructure: The experience of our team members in the projects and infrastructure sector dates back to the very first private finance initiative (PFI) transactions in the UK in the early 1990s. Since that time, our lawyers have advised lenders, consortiums and governments on projects in sectors including transportation, health, urban regeneration, prisons, defence, energy and renewables. Our work is not limited to domestic UK transactions; members of our team have advised on public private partnerships (PPP) in developed and emerging markets across the world, and in doing so, we are able to draw on our decades of experience on UK projects to provide solutions to issues that we have addressed in the past whilst always recognising that each jurisdiction has its own individual requirements and nuances and “one size does not fit all.”
- Restructuring: Debt and equity restructuring has become an increasing part of our work as a result of changing economic conditions and we advise regularly on transactions in this area, globally. Our clients include IFIs, banks, funds, global lending syndicates and borrowers. In recent years, our work in this area has included the restructuring of banks and financial institutions, global renewables businesses, steel manufacturers and telecoms providers.
- Banking: We act for banks, financial institutions and borrowers on domestic and international banking transactions ranging from relatively simple bilateral financings to complex, syndicated financing structures involving multiple finance providers and security across a number of jurisdictions. Our clients include a number of the largest, global financing institutions as well as smaller banks and businesses. Our experience extends to both debt and equity financings and covers multiple asset classes including renewables, emerging markets, microfinance, infrastructure and real estate development (to name but a few).
