Michael Clavell-Bate

Michael Clavell-Bate joined Asserson in 2025 as a partner to head its Manchester office, bringing his wealth of experience to further expand the firm’s presence in the region. He is a seasoned commercial lawyer with extensive experience advising clients on complex disputes and reputation management. With a particular focus on commercial litigation and defamation law, he provides pragmatic, business-focused guidance tailored to each client’s needs.

Michael spent over 34 years at Eversheds, including 25 years as a partner. He held several key leadership roles, serving for 15 years as senior partner in Manchester and as a global board member. His strategic insight and leadership helped shape the firm’s growth and influence. Since retiring from practice two years ago, Michael has taken on a range of various roles with companies across the north west, leveraging his expertise to support businesses in navigating legal and reputational challenges. A former president of the Manchester Law Society, he remains a trusted advisor in the legal and business communities
