Robert Gross

Robert is a Partner at Asserson and heads the firm’s Finance Department. He has over 25 years’ experience working for international law firms, the majority of that time as a Partner. He has been with Asserson since 2017.

He specialises in a number of areas: Finance and Project Finance (where he acts for lenders and borrowers on debt and equity transactions, with a focus on cross-border and emerging markets work); Private Equity )acting on multiple acquisitions and disposals of infrastructure assets in Central and Eastern Europe and further afield); Restructuring; Emerging Markets; and Renewables.

Robert’s clients include banks and multilateral lending institutions, investment funds, impact investors, private equity fund managers and sponsors and borrowers. 

Recent Experience 

Recent cases include acting for syndicate of financial institutions and investment funds on the restructuring of debt facilities and equity investments to financial institutions in Rwanda and Kenya.

He acted for the Sponsor and equity providers on a secured financing for the refurbishment and development of a major commercial development in the City of London, in addition to acting for financial institutions on the provision of new facilities and the restructuring of existing facilities to renewables businesses in Europe and Asia.

European Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year at the IJGlobal Awards 2015 for the £2.4bn UK government-backed school development initiative where Robert led the team acting for Aviva Investments providing senior debt financing.

Finance Monthly Deal Maker of the Year 2013 for his role on the €1.755bn debt restructuring of Vestas Wind Systems.

Legal Business 2006 Project Finance Team of the Year acting for Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund on the project financing of the UK’s largest portfolio of biomass energy plants.

Education

Robert graduated LLB (Hons) from University College London in 1985, and subsequently LLM (Hons) (Cantab) from Cambridge University 1987.
